Lake Fateh Sagar

Enclosing a perimeter of 6km, Fateh Sagar is considered to be the most beautiful lake in the city. Its situated inside the city and sorrounded by some significant places like Rajeev Gandhi garden, Pratap Smarak, Neemach Mata etc.

History says that in 1687, Maharana Jai Singh first constructed the lake but two hundred years later the lake was damaged heavily during floods, and thereafter Maharana Fateh Singh, the ruler of former Mewar State, reconstructed it in 1888. The lake is now named after the king as "Fateh Sagar lake"

About the Lake:
The lake is sorrounded Aravalli hills on three sides with a straight gravity stone masonry dam on the eastern side which has a spillway to discharge water overflows. The runoff water emerging from surrounding hills drains into this lake
Lake is filled up by 3 sources other then the rainfall, one from Pichola Lake, the other from Madar Lake and the third one from Badi Lake lead to the Fatah Sagar Lake.Monsoon rains are the main source of all water to the lake. Its gaugae level is +13ft.
Fateh Sagar (Commonly known as FS) is considered to be the best hangout place in town. There is a 800 mts. walkway parallel to the dam with benches facing the lake, else you can sit over the railings provided throughout the lake.
It also has 2 islands viz Nehru Garden & Solar Observatory. Nehru Garden is a park spread in a large area with beautiful flora & fountains in it. Solar Observatory is a research center for studying weather conditions

Udaipur was founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the final capital of the erstwhile Mewar kingdom, located to the southwest of Nagda, on the Banas River. Legend has it that Maharana Udai Singh II came upon a hermit while hunting in the foothills of the Aravalli Range. The hermit blessed the king and asked him to build a palace on the spot, assuring him it would be well protected. Udai Singh II consequently established a residence on the site. In 1568 the Mughal emperor Akbar captured the fort of Chittor, and Udai Singh moved the capital to the site of his residence, which became the city of Udaipur.
