Lake Pichola

Lake Pichola is another popular fresh water lake in the city enclosing the two most famous islands viz Jagmandir  and Hotel Lake Palace. Lake has some significant places nearby namely the Dudh talai lake, Manikya Lal Verma Garden, Rope-Way to Karni Mata Temple and the Musical Fountain.


It was built in 1962 AD and named after the nearby Picholi village.  The lake has a surface area of about 696 hectares. It is 4 kilometers long, 3 kilometers wide, and has depth varying from a minimum of 4.32 meters (14.2 ft) to a maximum of 8.5 meters (28 ft). The Sisarma stream, a tributary of the Kotda River, drains a catchment of 55 km2 from the Aravalli Mountains and contributes to the water in the lake.


The Lake is surrounded by some of the world renowned hotels such as Udai Vilas Palace, The Leela Palace and City Palace where you can find the lake view suites, or you can stay in between the lake at The Lake Palace Hotel.
When Overflowed, The water from Pichola reaches lake FatehSagar via a link-canal.


Boating Facility is available at the lake. Several Food Joints are also there at a distance of few meters from lake, serving mainly Indian and Chinese food. Other than these, tea, snacks & corn(seasonal) stall vendors can also be found beside the lake.  


The Lake is approachable by road from the by  Tongas, auto-rickshaws and taxis available from central bus stand, railway station and almost everywhere in the city.

SajjanGarh (Monsoon Palace)

Sajjangarh or Sajjangadh (Less popularly known as Monsoon palace) is a hill top palace situated at bansdara peak of the Aravali hill range at height of 3000ft. Owing to its height It can be seen from entire city area.


The fort presents mesmerizing view of city and aravali ranges in all directions. One can see the entire city from front side of the palace and the infinitely extending aravali hills from the other side. All the famous lakes viz Fateh Sagar Lake, Lake Pichola, Lake Govardhan Sagar can be seen from here. The palace also gives a beautiful view of sunset.

Its a 3 story above the ground building out of which 2 are open for public. The palace was started by Maharana  Sajjan Singh, which was later on completed by Maharana Fateh Singh.


Built with the white marble, the  palace fairly shows the luxury and royalty of Mewar Dynasty. From the Entry gate to the rooms and  from the architecture to finishing, it reflects the perfection of art and endless hard work of the workers.


The entire hill region is a wildlife sanctuary as well, named 'Sajjangadh Wildlife Sanctuary', so if you are lucky enough, you can find deers, tortoise, neelgai, sambhar, wild boars, jackals  and even tigers(rarely)


Other then the palace, There is cafeteria and a park available at the top, which makes this place a popular  picnic spot too. 


Although The  illuminated palace looks amazing at night, the entry is prohibited after evening, due to the risk involved. From city it looks like a pearl hanging in the sky, due to the invisibility of hill at night.

How to reach: Auto-Rickshaw are NOT allowed to go on the hill, One can reach the palace using either a 2 wheeler or 4 wheeler. Tickets are available at entrance at the foot of the hill, from here, single lane road is available upto the top.
